The fight went as most boxing experts expected.

The puncher (Mayorga) landed a few good shots and one or two seemed to stagger De La Hoya. Another couple of those, or one _really_ good one, and the puncher might have won.

The experienced pro (Oscar) boxed the other guy. From the start, Oscar showed why he has been a dominant fighter in more than one weight class for more than a decade. He even showed power when he down Majorga in the first round. His defense against Majorga's looping rights was effective. He found the openings that almost always occur with wild punchers and he landed good shots. The short left hook counter was doing just great.

I think the stoppage was a good one. Mayorga was obviously stunned in the middle of the ring when his arms dropped and he staggered back to the ropes. He was trying to counter and he was throwing his arms out to look like he was punching, but it was mostly in desparation. When Oscar landed several consecutive clean shots to the head .. that was enough .. and rightly so.

I enjoyed the fight a lot.

I loved it. For all the trash Mayorga talked, then to get dropped in the first round and beated on the next five. haha... I only wish the fight would have gone a few more rounds, to get the monies worth and see some blood, but hey, De La Hoya did his thing, showed great defensive skills and had great accuracy on the punch count. Good fight!

I think that the fight was stopped to early. De La Hoya is a great fighter and i was expecting a very technical bout much like when he fought Felix Trinidad. Mayorga is one of my favourite boxers in this division he fights like a MADMAN but he was eating allot of punches and holding his hands way to low most of the fight.

It is a shame the ref stopped the fight i was hoping for KO from either fighter cant wait for a rematch.

I was disappointed to find out that Mayorga was just hype. I mean for you to get out boxed by a fighter past him prime who has never had the heart to win the big one i was upset by that. This, however, may get De la Hoya's head big enough to think that he actually belongs in the ring with Floyd Maywhether Jr. and then I believe we will see a beating of monumental proportions.

I was not shocked by the outcome... I don't think Oscar really has the heart or passion for fighting anymore, but he was fighting against an opponent who was tailor made for him... Mayorga doesn't offer much in the way of lateral movement, nor does he move his head much... he comes straight ahead, and with his wild punches, it's not that difficult for a boxer to step in between those shots and return fire... I'm certainly not a De Lahoya fan, but if he is fighting Mayweather next, I will root for Oscar for the first time in his career.

Let's just put it plain and simple Mayorga got what was coming to him and that was an a@# whippin:) I was extactic with the results. Oscar is still the Golden Boy, Mayorga can take his a@# back home;)
