Question:
Should Manny Pacquiao retire after his boxing match with Joshua Clottey?

In an earlier statement, Freddie Roach said that Joshua Clottey would be Manny Pacquiao's last opponent. But in today's news, Roach said that Manny would likely retire early next year. Should Pacquiao retire after his boxing match with Clottey? Or should he heed his trainer's statement to retire early next year?

I should really say, "While Pacman is on the very top, he may have to seriously consider his mom's wish to retire." It is, indeed, very tempting for him to fight and fight because the money and fame is there. This, however, is what Manny Pacquiao should learn from history. And I am referring to no less than the late Gabriel "Flash" Elorde. Mr. Elorde truly knew when to stop and hang his boxing gloves forever. I just hope that Manny Pacquiao will seriously think and discern about the same move which Flash Elorde did in the past. Manny, since you are already on top and you have already earned millions of pesos and dollars plus the honor you have brought to our country, isn't it high time for you to think of establishing several boxing training gyms all over the country - Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao? Perhaps you should also consider training your up and coming boxers? Please listen to your Mama Dionisia's wish. She knows best for you!

in his latest interview by Jimmy Kimmel he said he will not retire after clottey, just let the election pass and hope he will not win, then he'll beat Floyd Gayweather.

No.

He still has an unfinished business with Floyd Mayweather.

I think serious boxing fans like me should not be denied the opportunity to witness the epic battle between these two greats and thus settling once and for all the biggest question in boxing right now -

Who is the best pound 4 pound king?

After that, he can retire.

It depends on his decision but difinitely he will. First, thats the hardest but the last request made by his mother for him after his fight with Clottey. And probably he will follow what his mother wants for him because his mother has a Heart Problem. Secondly, he is confirmed now as a candidacy for congressman under Nationalist Party which his mother also discouraged him to enter politics. We maybe know his decision about this after election. If he wins, probably he will retire because he needs to focus in another career that is on politics but if he lost, we still have to wait for his final confirmation.

Yes. he has nothing more to prove. He is on top and quit while he is still up there. give chance to others. Manny Pacquiao is a made man in boxing.

I'm a Pacquiao fan and I say he shouldn't retire. He's pretty much at the top of his game, despite what happened with his last match (he got hit a lot). I don't want him to retire early not just because I'm a fan of his, but because I just don't want him to go down so early in the game. I say he should go down swinging, not retire early so he can keep his pride intact.

And being a fan, I still want to see that fight against Mayweather.

Folks, here is the business side of the equation. Manny should retire NOW win or lose in the next elections. Then the welterweight title becomes vacant and Floyd will be lured to come back and win against patsies. Once that happens, Pacman can mount a return and PBF will have no chance but to oblige being the defending champ. Manny's absence will sweeten the prize pot further to as high as maybe 50 or 60 million dollars as everybody will be clamoring for the mega fight.

Yes its time manny retires. He has all the money that boxing can give him. He has no longer any opponents and besides, he is not getting any younger anymore.

Just a piece of advice to Manny Pacquiao, stay away from politics. Better to spend time with a business like to build a boxing camp in Gensan where he can train people and even ask Freddie Roach to help Filipino athletes.

Then he can spend more time with his family not like how he grew up.

Finally, Manny is enrolled in Notre Dame. He can find all the time to finish his schooling if only he wants to retire with a good name and be remembered as one of the greatest boxers that ever lived.

He can maintain his freindship with the many politicos surrounding him, but they should respect his decision to stay away from politics. After all he does not owe them anything.

MAnny is a national hero, a legend who did not even think he would place the Philippines in the world map. We are all respected abroad when they know as a kababayan of Manny Pacquiao.

Good luck Mr. Manny Pacquiao, and pacman no more!

No, Manny Pacquiao does not need to fight mayweather. Manny Pacquiao had proven himself and reached the top, a World Champion in seven (7) different weight divisions, even without fighting arrogant mayweather. Manny Pacquiao did not proclaim himself as the Pound for Pound king, the media and boxing experts in the US did. mayweather is a cheater and a self proclaimed P4P, in fair encounter with Manny Pacquiao the former does not have a chance to defeat the latter. At first glance, you can size up mayweather how weak this man was.

Pacquiao is still in his boxing prime so he shouldn't retire just yet. If I'm Arum, I'll go for the fight everybody wants to see: Pacquiao vs Mayweather. That would finally rest all doubts about Pacquiao and finally be called the Greatest Boxer of all time. Then for entertainment, let's see Valero's first loss by Pacman, and finally tie that loose end with Marquez. After that he can spend all his money to his heart's delight.

I'm a fan of Manny Pacquiao and I watch all of he's fight. WOW... that's the word i could really express whenever I watch his fight.

After he's fight for Clottey! I would support on Manny's mother advice, ALING JONISHA. Since he already achieved and knockdown the BEST of BEST boxing KING.

This is the time for him to retired besyd he have everything! a bless family, wealth, and career.

And let other boxers envy him so that he would be an icon of everyone who would like to persue a career like this.

YES! Manny should retire, even his mother wants him to stating that he does not need to prove himself and he has all the money that he needs to support his family. IF he wins a congressional seat in the forthcoming elections, he will not have the time to prepare and box. It will be a disservice to his constituents and his country if he still returns to the ring. The only people who want him really back are the people who make a ton of moolah of this poor man's beating. Follow the money trail and see who are the one's who don't want him to retire. Unfortunately, this scenarion has been played over and over throughout history. Specially in Hollywood and the music industry in America where it has become a science or wherever opportunists reign.

Manny should Retire. Nanay Dionisia already asked him to retire. Maybe she feels something that only a mother can feel. She may be thinking what's best for Manny. Well, that's my point of view. It depends on Manny. Go Pacman!

Maybe after his fight with Mayweather he can retire. Just be sure he wins in that fight so he can step down as the greatest boxer of all. He should forget politics because these politicians around him will just take advantage on him. If he is sincere in his advocacy to help the poor people, he can always do it even outside the political arena.

Yes, only after his fight with Mayweather. Fighting and winning over Mayweather will be our legacy as Filipinos in the world of boxing. Filipinos cannot be forgotten in the history of sports and we must be proud for having Manny. I was very young when I saw the fights of Ali (Casius Clay before). Now, I am old and Ali is now very sick but I cannot forget his legacy as he changed the boxing style that no other before him did.

YES. Nothing feels good than obeying your parents, in his case, his mother. Besides, he already got the fame and the wealth. Why not be on the background of the uprising boxers? Plus, he's running for a seat in the Congress. I just can't get the picture, a congressman (if ever) and at the same time a world record boxer. *connect the dots* ~""?

This is just an opinion... I think Manny should retire while he is on top and is already a great living legend. There is no one who can beat his record at this time. It is more graceful to retire when you're on top and unbeaten, than to retire because he has been beaten. If he does retire, He will truly be a 'LIVING LEGEND AND UNBEATEN AT THAT..."

He should keep fighting either Mosley or Mayweather then he can retire.

My suggestion is for Manny to stop POLITICS.He's just being used and brainwashed by those politicians around him that call him " a friend " but they're not.If they are true friends then they will not advised him to stay in politics but stay away from politics.Manny is for boxing not for politics and when he retires he can stay in Los Angeles with his family then he will have a quite retired life in Los Angeles. If he wants to share some of his fortune to poor Filipinos then he can run his own promotion company and share his income with poor filipinos. He's just being manipulated by those he thought his politician friends but those politician friends when he retires they will be the first one to betray his trust.

He can take care of his wealth by being away from those politician friends and stay in Los Angeles for the future of his KIDS......Come on we are all manny's fans . He gave so much pride to the Philippines and it's citizens . Let's love him for that......Let's be loyal and sincere to him.He deserves to receive respect and so much loyalty for what he contributed to the Philippines.

Website moderator :Can you please published this opinion ,please........

And my word to his politician friends: Please respect Manny truly by not pushing him to politics. You have a lot of resources to be used but not Manny.Come on GUYS.....There are people around you that knows and can obviously see your purpose with Manny.

The coach and trainer knows best for Pacquiao he had enough nothing to prove, he had shown the the boxing realm the heart of a boxer. He should retire and focusing on motivating and scouting uprising, potential young boxers to be train to follow his footstep in bringing glory and honor to our country. Am an avid fan of him in boxing but not in politics........let him retire in his conquest to politics, preserve your honor for not joining politics especially with alongside politician gambler friend of yours. Guess who? Tip....Beatles song "Yellow Submarine" Bato-bato sa langit JEJEJE.

It would be much better for Pacman to face his detractor (Mayweather, et al.) and proved to the world that he is the real Pound for pound King before he finally hung his boxing gloves. For leaving the world of boxing with a little "cloud of doubts" hanging over his head would certainly haunted him for the rest of his life.

NO! it is not the right time, Politics can wait.

He can draw 50,000 plus audience in an indoor football arena, it's incredible in the boxing history.

There are still exciting matches ahead for him to beat and everybody want to see it.

Good luck!

i guess dapat tumigil na si Manny. why wait na mabugbug ka uli. you are not growing younger, marami ka nang pera, you are famous na, leave good times for your children and family. You can also serve your country man by not going to politic. maganda na ang record na huwaran ng mga kab ataan today. kaya tigil na Manny, makinig ka na kay Jinky at your mom. Huag ka na magpa oto sa mga taong gustong kumita sa laban mo. marami ka nang napayaman din.
