Question:
Did Manny Pacquiao duck Shane Mosley?

manny knew there was no way that shane, with his muscular frame, could make 142. look, welterweight is 147 pounds! manny's signature wins have come against drained fighters (oscar and cotto) and a clottey who is no more than a walking zombie. floyd mayweather took a titanic, maximum leverage right hand that would have decapitated little manny, and came back to dominate and stop mosley. pacquiao is the true coward in all of this. okay pactards, start the "spin"!

Roach said that though a “Mosley fight is probably the most exciting because they both like to fight,” it's all about making the fight on even terms.

“I have to protect my fighter,” said Roach, who administered the terms for Pacquiao and Oscar De La Hoya last year. “I spoke to Shane and told him that we would fight him at 142. He said he can’t make that weight.”

You could make that claim but I personally think that it's unwarranted because for one, Pacquiao doesn't choose his opponents, his promoter Bob Arum does- Pacquiao simply fights whoever is put in from of him and I have no doubt he would have fought Mosley if his promoter got him that fight, so this question should really be "Did Bob Arum duck Mosley?" Plus, Mosley eventually even stated that he would be willing to go all the way down to 140 pounds and challenge Pacquiao for his Ring Magazine junior welterweight title but Arum still said no and by the time Mosley offered that, Pacquiao had already begun talks for the Cotto fight. And secondly you can make the argument that Miguel Cotto deserved a fight with Manny Pacquiao more than Shane Mosley did.

On one hand, Mosley deserved the fight more because he was the number 1 welterweight in the world at the time and was coming off the excellent victory over Antonio Margarito to become a champion once again.

On the other hand, Cotto arguably deserved the fight more because even though he lost to Margarito, he owned a victory over Mosley (who in turn went on to beat Margarito), and after the loss to Margarito, which looks suspicious now due to whole hand wrapping fiasco, Cotto built himself back up by winning a vacant title and beating the top contender Joshua Clottey, so he deserved a big fight like the one he got against Pacquiao.

So, yes, I would say Mosley probably deserved the fight more than Cotto did based on recent performances but Bob Arum is the guy who makes all the decisions regarding Pacquiao's career and he did the thing that made the most financial sense by matching Pacquiao with Cotto because he promotes both fighters. Why match Pacquiao with Mosley and have to split the revenue with a rival promoter when he could just as easily match Pacquiao with Cotto and take all the revenue for himself? Boxing is not only a sport, it's a business and the better business decision was to match Pacquiao with Cotto and that's why that fight happened- it didn't have anything to do with Pacquiao "ducking" Mosley or being afraid to fight him; why would he "duck" or be afraid of a fighter when he's fighting the guy that beat that fighter (i.e. Cotto beat Mosley and Pacquiao fought Cotto)?

If any of those three got together the fights would be classic. I do rank Shane Mosley as the best welterweight in the world because over the last decade he's been fighting the best and when he's lost it was when he moved up to fight Vernon and Winky. I know he lost to Cotto but if those guys fought 10 times I think Mosley would win more. I don't rank Manny that high at welter because he only has a few wins in the division and Floyd, well he hasn't fought a top 5 welterweight ever except maybe Judah but Zab is no longer close to being in the top 5 which would be Mosley, Williams, Pacquiao, Beryo, Clottey, and Margarito.

Team Pacquiao did not want any part of Shane Mosley. They had the option of fight Mosley or Miguel Cotto and they chose Cotto. Mosley agreed to Manny's terms for weigth and money split...but he just came off of a spectacular KO win over Margarito. Cotto struggled in his 2 previous fights with a controversial "win" over Joshua Clottey and a win over a weak opponent. Also he lost a brutal fight to Antonio Margarito. Shane was at that time higher rated and more dangerous...Manny's team side-stepped Mosley for Cotto.

obviously yes he did he turn down 20 mill to fight him hes the number 1 welter w at the time som pactard fans say o but cotto beat him so what it was a close fight for one two they fought at 147 not at a catch wt 145 3 he fought cotto when cotto was a lot beter then he got kod by margarito and hasnt been the same since then mosley kod margarito became number 1 welterwt so it look as he dodge mosley why would his camp quoted mosley too risky of a fight lets fight cotto hes a damaged fighter?

Why would you pick Mosley if you know that he got beaten by Cotto? Oh yeah I forgot thats the reason why Mayweather fought Carlos Baldomir-----LOL----

@John V---- There is no other legit welterweight available at that time. Remember, Berto was scheduled to fight Mosley January 2010. And some talks are saying Mayweather vs Matthew Hatton at that time. Know the facts my friend.
