A KO is a situation when a boxer goes down the canvass and is counted out by the referee. A TKO is a situation where the boxer could still be standing but is so battered by the opposing boxer that the referee steps in and stops the fight and declare a winner to a bout. Of course, the battered one loses and the other is declared the winner.
While there are situations that could be difficult to distinguish a KO from a TKO, as for example, after the round another boxer just refuses to come out and so a stoppage is declared and a winner is named normally by saying that the fight is completed by a TKO (since he did not TECHNICALLY continue and does is TECHNICALLY KNOCKED OUT), others would contend that he was KNOWNED OUT by refusing to continue.
Whatever it is, a KO and a TKO result in the completion of a bout. And so a KO is a KNOCKED OUT situation, while a TKO is a situation where the boxer is declared TECHNICALLY out of the game as a result of a no-contest, injury or referee's decision.

The difference between a K.O and a TKO is that a KO is when a fighter can't get up before the count of 10 and therefore looses the fight by knockout(KO). A TKO is when either the referee, doctor, or corner of the fighter stop the fight. A TKO usually happens when a fighter is stopped on his feet and is not responding to punches therefore the referee is forced to stop the fight. A TKO may also be when the corner stop the fight or a fighter quits on the stool. And sometimes a doctor may stop the fight due to a real bad cut.

KO, knockout - The fighter is dropped and cannot continue after the ten count.
TKO, technical knockout - The referee sees the fighter taking too much punishment and waves the fight off. There were three knockdowns in a round (this usually does not apply anymore). In certain instances, it is considered a technical knockout when the fight is stopped on cuts. A fighter retires in his corner between rounds. Basically anything that isn't a straight-up KO and doesn't require a decision by the scorecards.

A KO is when the fighter is sent to the canvas by a punch and fails to get up before the ref counts 10. A TKO is when the referee uses his discretion and stop a fight to protect a fighter he feels has taken enough.

KO - One fighter is knocked down to the mat and is unable to respond the 10 count and continue the match.
TKO - Technical knockout - result of a referee stoppage due to severe punishment that one fighter is taking and is unable to protect himself; result of doctor stop due to severe injuries inflicted on one fighter; result of a forfeit by fighters corner (towel thrown in); in some matches result of 3 knockdowns in one round.
