It's becuase in reality, his resume is extremely weak. He beat JMM, but it was very controversial, although it was close and John showed he could hang w/ a legit HOF type guy.

Other than that though, John just fights weak competition in Asia b/c he can make as much money there fighting bad fighters, as he could coming to the US and fighting dangerous opponents.

I like John a lot, he's a very skilled fighter and all that. But, besides the JMM win, his other two best wins are Rocky Juarez (beat him twice, but Juarez is basically like a journeyman), and Daud Yordan (a very solid fighter who I like, but nothing special).

I don't think John is a legend. He's a dude who had a lot of skills and talent, but never challenged himself enough to prove he was something more.

He fought Marquez, but there were plenty of really good fighters at 126lb (Caballero, Gamboa, JuanMa, Salido, Ponce de Leon, etc.) that he should've fought in order to show REALLY how good he was.

Belts really don't mean anything. These days a fighter can become champion and spend the rest of their careers fighting bums. Look at Chavez Jr., undefeated until he actually fought someone. Undefeated doesn't mean anything.

Floyd Mayweather has fought people, he just makes them look ordinary because he is one of the greatest pure boxers of all time. He is also a superstar because of his mouth. Calzaghe didn't just fight nobodies and neither did Roy Jones. There's a difference between not fighting and ducking. A lot of fights are made for the money they would generate. That's not ducking, that's business. Other fights just don't happen.

Chris John might not be a legend to some but he is definitely one in Asia. I can't see the point of using his area of preference when it comes to fighting but we can not use the same to other fighters. Does these American fighters ever fought in Asia or anywhere else to some of them? It is with this same token that we can not question Chris John's record. I myself really doesn't give too much merit to fighters in Asia because of their preferences in fighting in their homeland but some shouldn't be forgetting that Chris John was fighting in Singapore and not Indonesia, which is fast replacing Las Vegas as the Mecca of boxing together with Macau. It might be true that he is fighting fighters of the lower level but I am sure he is not to blame since I am also sure that fighters from other countries won't even dare fight him in Asia. He is not to go after other fighters since he already earned that privilege but this fighters who want a piece of the glory.

Chris John holds the record for the most number of title defenses and that alone is enough to makes him a legend. No fighter in his stature will even care fighting in Las Vegas when he can earn the same money fighting in his backyard. Let the competition come to him and not him chasing after them and I would love to see any of these fighters who we called great dare to fight outside of their comfort zone and that include a very famous fighter who was considered the #1 P4P.

Well it depends, John's competition isn't very good but I guess we can't blame him since he's gets paid more money over at his home continent than he would if he fought better competition at other nations or continents.

Legnds are storis so it is not possible for people to be legnds. Peopl can be in storis but they cannot be the stories themselves.
