Question:
Mayweather Ortiz: reaction?

I finally watched this fight on HBO on demand and saw the out come of this atrocious act of non sportsman like conduct by Floyd Mayweather Jr.
What a punk!
I don't think it was coincidence that Floyd pulled this stunt, I think Ortiz may have hurt him a little just before the head butt, he had him on the ropes and was getting to him with good shots.
Here we have a young fighter who got a little too over excited and butted Mayweather in the heat of the moment, I don't blame him he was in the biggest fight of his career so far and excitement is normal.
I can't say that Ortiz would have knocked out Mayweather because let's face it the fight wasn't going his way until that point.
But to come in like Floyd did trying to touch Ortiz's gloves and then blind siding him with a one two was poor judgement on Mayweather's part, pure and simple it was a sucker punch.
While it was a legal move, it was classless and to me showed that he was scared to some extent to feel he needed to sucker punch Ortiz to win.
What do you think?

Dude, you can't just write off what Ortiz did and say he got "excited".

He was throwing his head around all night, it was intentional and part of his plan. It's not like he threw it by accident. He's a professional and grown man, he needs to be held accountable.

Go ahead and criticize Floyd for what he did, but if you do, make sure to put the same blame (if not more) on Ortiz, because he caused the situation.

Fact is, Ortiz started the whole sequence of events, and got put on his a*s because of it.

EDIT: I know what you mean, I wish Floyd didn't finish that way either. But I understand why he did what he did, and Ortiz didn't look good doing what he did.

I don't understand how you can say you can't blame Ortiz for illegally head-butting Floyd right after you called Mayweather's LEGAL punches an "atrocious act."

That is just my reaction to your question. As for the fight itself the person i was most disappointed with was Victor Ortiz. Yes he was only winning one round on one judges scorecard through 3 rounds but I personally thought he was starting to gain some traction in the 4th. Right before the head-butt occured, Ortiz caught Mayweather with a flush punch while Floyd was trying to slip another. I think with his size, youth, and aggressive style Victor Ortiz could have really won significantly more fans that night even if he lost in a later round or on the scorecards. He could have made Floyd work hard for a win. Instead, like you said, the magnitude of the event got the best of Ortiz and he crumbled. Instead of living by the warrior code of "come back with your shield or on it" Ortiz tried to "come back with his shield or get disqualified and not take any more punishment."

Personally I can understand Floyd's frustration with the illegal head-butt. Just like the big event got to Ortiz, I think Floyd's temper got the best of him. Yet, he isn't in the clear in my opinion either. If you want to be looked at as the best fighter in the world... knock this kid out while his hands are up. Behave like a dignified champion. Take this kid to school, don't take a cheap route by baiting Ortiz into thinking you are going to allow him to apologize then fire off 2 shots. Then again, how many more times did Ortiz need to apologize? Cortez clearly made the hand gestures to bring the fighters together and resume action.

At the end of the night I was upset with both fighters for not giving the fans their money's worth in the fight. It was Immature vs Amature. But let's be honest... matter how you view which fighter was "more wrong," Ortiz started it and Mayweather finished it.

Well, Ortiz jumped in with his head with his hands down. Anybody can tell that it was on purpose from there. The problem is that Ortiz already apologized but who's gonna believe him that he won't do it again after that?

What's weird is that after the ref said "Okay, lets go!", Ortiz walked towards Mayweather with his hands down trying to apologize AGAIN. Why didn't he touch his gloves from a distance instead!? And how in the world was Ortiz planning on starting the fight from there? It was right after Mayweather got headbutted on purpose. I wouldn't be surprised if Mayweather thought Ortiz might sucker punch from there. And I would be pissed off for trying to pause the fight when it has already started if I was Mayweather.

1) KO of the year

2) Ortiz disrespected the game by walking up to his opponent with his hands down....

i hate when fighters do that...it shows me that they don't really want to fight...

the ref gives you the opportunity to touch gloves before the first bell sounds...

and fighters can hug and kiss after the last bell ends the fight....

in between is just for fighting

and i agree with Deez....how you can not blame Ortiz for an illegal foul that could easily justify a disqualification, but refer to mayweather as a "punk" for taking his man out without breaking the rules shows a lack of general boxing knowledge and appreciation

I'm a Mayweather fan but let's be serious, it was a cheapshot. However, the only person who broke the rules was Ortiz so all is fair in love and war.
