Oh this is a easy one. The Irishman wins.
Both these guy's put 'slick' in boxing. Both were smart, quick and elusive. Tunney holds the edge in power, but Conn the edge in speed. I think this would be a very close bout. Tunney's brilliance and power may be just enough to edge Conn out. But on the other hand Conn's speed may get him a desc. Remember Conn started out in the welters, fighting all those quick and fast guys, so Tunney is not out-speeding or overwhelming Conn in this area. Also keep in mind a young slick, fast and elusive Tommy Loughran gave Gene alot of trouble. So Conn may also. I could easily see a split Desc. here. or a very close Desc. either way. Or if they fought more than once, possible a desc. win for each one over the other. If they were in their prime in the same era, they may have had one of the great triology fights in boxing. Great question.

Tunney was a man ahead of his era. Nobody possessed the ring intelligence that he did. However Conn was very slick, he was elusive and packed a solid punch to. This fight wouldn't be very entertaining, put I'd lean towards a close, but solid decision in favour of the Fighting Marine, Gene Tunney.

Battle of the light heavyweight champions. I have to pick Gene Tunney in this one because Billy Conn is good but he is famous due to the lost to Joe Louis. Otherwise, Billy is beatable, he has 12 losses on his record. On the other hand, Gene lost only once and he later revenge that lost.
