he wants millions of dollars to fight scrubs and he is not the same fighter he used to be. Roy Jones is my favorite boxer but he is wrong for trying to get more money than he is worth. In the past year he turned down fights because the money wasnt right.

I watched Friday Night Fights last night and Roy called in and talked with Brian Kenney, and i had to laugh at some of his comments. Roy, who was a superb talent at one time and the best fighter on the planet, obviously still thinks of himself as such. He said the he pulled out of his last proposed fight because he didn't want Gary Shaw to be the promoter, and that him being the great fighter that he is, he has the right to pick the promoter. Roy is still Roy's biggest fan, but he must realize that the boxing public really has the last say when it comes to buying tickets to go to fights, and Roy is just not the draw he once was. He's lost 3 of his last 4 fights and was knocked cold in 2 of them, and he didn't look all the great against his last opponent, who was virtually an unknown. Roy may have to humble himself a bit and take less money if he wants another shot at becoming a champion because he's been pricing himself out of several proposed matches, including one with Bernard Hopkins where he wanted a 50-50 split of the money even though Hopkins is the champ, had just thrashed Antonio Tarver, the fighter who beat Jones 2 out of 3, and had all the leverage in the negotiations, Roy still refused to humble himself to take a shot at Hopkins and win his crown back. Now he's talking about a Jermain Taylor fight in September, but he may price himself right out of that the way he's going about his buisness. Roy should take a cue from Evander Holyfield. When you have slipped as a fighter and have had some losses, sometimes you have to start from scratch. Roy should take a few tune ups and try to get back to form (or at least close) to convince the public that he's at least going to be competitive in these big fights that he wants. And then go for the top. I love Roy as a fighter, but he's not the fighter that he once was and he's fooling himself into thinking that he is.

Some fighters age gracefully, most don't. Father time just happened to catch Roy on the end of a Tarver left hook. You can't blame a fighter for wanting to get paid, and it wasn't that long ago Roy commanded such mega$$$. He's the one who would have to take the punches, so he as a right to put whatever value he chooses on whether it's worth stepping into the ring again. It is not our place to negotiate for Roy or his prospective opponents, the vampires in the business get theirs, rarely to fighters get in a position to promote themselves, and Roy was one of the rare ones.

If he fights again, he should be comfortable with his purse, it's the least boxing can do for a fighter of Roy's former stature, being over paid beats being exploited by corrupt promoters any day of the week, I say more power to him, he should hold out for the big bucks or retire.

RJJ turn down those fights because he was going to get beat and would at least have soem money for his beating. RJJ should just retire and let us forget how he was nearly killed in a couple of fights

he's trying to make his money while at the same time get another title shot...he for whatever reason believes he's got the ability to challenge for a belt again, and no offense but anyone with half a brain knows that he is far too old to be a contender again
