Does winning the heavyweight title automatically get you into the boxing hall of fame? Mike was the youngest to ever hold the title, is he a lock on a hall of fame slot, or are there question's?

Mike Tyson Does belong in the boxing hall of fame based on two things.

First, in his prime he was an exciting and successful fighter, and the youngest heavyweight champion of all time.

Second, and this will most likely upset people, but Ken Norton is a hall of famer....

What did Ken Norton do? He was Heavyweight champion, in 1978, but he didnt win the title, it was awarded to him, and he lost it in his 1st defense, to Larry Holmes, also in 1978. His other "accomplishments" include winning a 10 round decision against Ali, who wasn't champion at the time, and being bounced off the canvas by George Foreman in his other title try. Foreman won that one by 2nd round KO.

At least Mike won the title, and unified all the belts. Now were the people he beat world beaters? Nope, but he beat who was there until Buster whipped his ***. Further he did return to win a version of the belts and then it all went downhill, but at one point Mike was not a bad fighter, and at least as good if not better than hall of famer Ken Norton.

Keep your hands Up !

There are many boxers in the Hall of Fame who shouldnt be there. Mike has accomplished more than some of them so it is likely he will go too, though he probably should also not be there.

The fact that Tyson is the youngest to win a title (fractured) is not enough to place him alongside the immortals such as Louis, Marciano and Ali. What else has Tyson done that others have not done?

I think Jersey Joe Walcott is in the Hall of Fame. He WAS the oldest to win the title. But when George Forman broke that record was Walcott taken OUT of the Hall? Im not sure he SHOULD be there but Tyson will be there.

Based on his achievements while in his prime and being the youngest heavy-weight Champion, yes! But unfortunately like many boxers both now and then, his image preceeds him in a negative light! Although we all know that boxing shouldn't be based on image and charisma, the truth is that in today's society, that is 200% the case..

People in all aspects of the celebrity life-style should have gotten onboard by now and accepted this fact.. We all know that like sex, drama sells and everything a celebritiy does or says, it scrutinized to the fullest.. So my conclusion to this whole thing is, eventhough in many ways Tyson should and could be in the Boxing Hall of Fame, it will never happen.....The End!

Because Cooney was an overrated white fighter that everyone wanted to be champ but really wasn't that good. His biggest fights Holmes, Spinks, Foreman he lost & lost by KO. He had a glass jaw & only beat guys past their primes. The Holmes fight was ridiculious how many times he hit Holmes low. Spinks wasn't even a heavyweight & KO'd him & Foreman was 40 something & KO'd him. It's not about his class or being a gentleman its about accomplishments in the ring & Cooney had none. One of the most overrated fighters in the history of boxing. Mike Tyson is the youngest fighter to ever win the heavyweight championship & had some of the highest grossing fights in history with Holyfield & Lennox Lewis. Even when he was fighting all the guys they put in front of him & knocking them out we all tuned in to watch. Tyson & Cooney aren't even in the same conversation when it comes to boxing greatness. Their are current boxers that would go into the hall of fame before Cooney!!!!

mike tyson in to the boxing hall of fame is like pete rose being inducted to baseball's hall of fame. both of them did great in their respective professional careers as athletes, but both has had their own downward spiral. one has to think, what is the essence of being in the hall of fame? i say that being in the hall of fame means doing something great, oir extraordinary to or for the sport, which i think mike tyson did.

winning the heavyweight title doesnt guarantee passage into the hall of fame, but to do it at a young age and the dominance he has shown in his prime, speaks for itself. he may have walked the path to his own demise as a person, but as a boxer, he had his fair share of glory worthy of the hall.

then again, its still the people who actually votes boxers into the hall who has the last say.

I don't know why you hate Mike soo much. He was the youngest heavyweight champion of the world and that is his ticket to the boxing hall of fame. He was in jail for his rape charge, he paid his due. I think you need to stop asking meaningless question about Mike because that only show your biased opinion about him. He is not a role model but in his prime he was exciting to watch. I rather watch Mike Tyson fight in his prime than Wladamir Klitscho boring fight with Sultan Ibragimov anytime.

Tyson was a myth! Created by Clayton, Jacobs, and Cus. They did such a great job, that some people actually think he was great. In spite of losing every big fight he ever had! And losing to a 50-1 underdog/journeyman Douglas. Who also is a former heavyweight champ. Due to the fact he exposed the fraud with a 9th round KO!

So who goes in the Hall first Tyson or the man that took his title the immortal Buster Douglas!

Mike Tyson belongs in both. He was a hell of a fighter. He also was/is one hell of a train wreck in his personal life.

Whether or not you like the crazy and stupid things this man has done doesn't matter. he is one of the greatest fighters to ever step into the ring and he should not be punished because of the things he has done outside of boxing.
