Question:
Are Matthew Hatton and Saul Alvarez deserving to fight for the vacant WBC Jr Middleweight belt?
2011-02-18 05:43:01 UTC
In all of Alvarez fights at Junior Middleweights, they were all catchweights of 150 pound limit instead of 154. He fought only 4 times against 154 guys (all are catchweights), and all of them are unranked in the top 10 best Jr. Middleweights. Matthew Hatton practically fought tomato cans in his entire career, much like Alvarez, and then these two guys get a chance to become a WBC champion? what do you think?

First and formost we have to understand that the WBC is based out of Mexico so you going to to see Mexican fighters treated a little differnt than other fighters. As of recently they stripped Sergio Martinez and made him champion emartius so that Julio Cesar Chavez Jr could fight for the title next and what've done with Saul Alverez isn't any differnt.

Are these two fighters worthy of a title shot, I happen to think Canelo Alverez is, but not against Matthew Hatton and not at Jr. Middleweight.

The WBC realizes what they have in these two young Mexican fighters who are bound to become superstars, there trying to use the belt as a way to legitimize both men.

It'll be interesting to see the level of talent Saul Alverez faces once he becomes champion because the there's no more fights with Matthew Hatton and Carlos Baldimor a lot of young hungry prospects like Alfredo Angulo and Austin Troute are going go come calling and we'll see if Canelo is the real deal..........I happend to think he is.

Spare Saul Alvarez. the youngster would not be attentive to what he replaced into saying while he stated as out Floyd Mayweather Jr. This guy thinks he's invincible after being fed with checklist padding combatants. this is the threat of what they have executed becoming a fighter who thinks he can do all of it. How Floyd might in super condition with Jr/ Middleweights? no person is conscious except he attempt. Pacquiao won't submit a stable combat? this is an fairly judgmental fact. How approximately "shown previous smart doubt". enable them to combat, then we choose and maybe despite in the event that they fought, we are in a position to no longer make a conclusive prognosis no count if it relatively is debatable that they ought to combat lower back. How approximately Floyd Mayweather Jr. battling Sergio Martinez who's prepared to pass all the way down to 154# for a combat with Floyd Jr? this may well be a extra constructive tournament up than battling Saul Alvarez, a "youthful lion" like Ortiz. do no longer rule out the potential for a combat between Mayweather Jr. and Pacquiao. I strongly believed that they have been attempting to gauge this threat and basically they gained't tell each and each guy or woman. team Pacquiao have been relatively excited in this combat and that i'm hoping Floyd too.

Saul Alvarez has a decent record but has fought no-one in the top 10 rated light-middleweights.

Matthew Hatton is a welterweight so who knows how he got this fight... baffling.

Kermit Cintron v Ryan Rhodes... this would be a much more deserving fight and then Alvarez can fight the winner.

I agree with demonski,Ryan Rhodes is a much better british candidate than Matthew for a title shot.I think Ricky's friendship with De La Hoya is the only reason that Matthew is getting this fight and i think we all know why Saul is getting a shot but once he steps up in class he will get the same treatment Daniel Jacobs and Victor Ortiz got, their a$$ knocked the f*** out!!

Neither are Light middleweights, Hatton is European champion, but at welterweight, he has never fought at 154, and neither has Alvarez. Its beyond me how two low ranked welterweights can be matched for the prestigious WBC title at light middleweight, that's boxing though it can be crazy at times!

Honestly, Saul Alvarez. Probably cause he has the skill set to be a great champ one day. But Matthew Hatton, who is he?

No.

Neither guy is really deserving (though to his credit, Alvarez did KO Carlos Baldomir a former lineal champ). That doesn't mean that this can't be a good fight, though. It could be a slug fest, as both guys are not great defenders and like to go on the attack. I am looking forward to this, as unlikely as it sounds, and I expcet a good fight, though it shouldn't be a title. fight.

None of the proper 154 contenders were even contacted. Another step towards the WBC losing credibility.
