I matched these up according to the current weight class Champions. So what do you think would happen in a all out fight in the octagon.

Bj Penn vs Floyd Mayweather?
Georges St Pierre vs Kelly Pavlik?
Anderson Silva vs Joe Calzaghe?
Rashad Evans vs Chad Dawson?
Brock Lesnar vs Wladimir Klitsko?

In my opinion its looks like all of the boxers would get whipped and i am a boxing fan and it is hard to say.

In order for us to have a fair assessment, we have to at least see these guys fight in the Octagon at least once. If WWE wrestlers can in fact have a successful career as MMA fighters why can't boxers with training and preparation. Give an elite boxer 1 or 2 years MMA training, whats the difference between the other guys who adjusted from their original disciplines (Kickboxing, Juijutsu, Karate...) to MMA?

Seriously, boxers are underestimated simply because we only see one side of their skill. There is nothing in what we see in the boxing ring that would mean that the boxer is incapable of learning MMA.

BTW, why didn't you include Manny Pacquiao and Fyodor Emelianenko? Not against each other, of course, but their absense is curious.

Under UFC rules the boxers would only have a "punchers chance." I don't think any of them have any type of wrestling background, so unless they caught the UFC guys coming in within the first 10-20 seconds they would probably just get grabbed and taken to the floor where they probably wouldn't be able to get up.

Its completely different rules, if the fights were held in a boxing ring, not one of the UFC fighters would make it would of the first round - even Silva.

You couldn't even make these types of matchups in their respective sports - they don't let a guy who has never fought take on a world champion, it would almost be criminal.

The comparison isn't far because the Boxers don't have ground fighting experience so its like comping the worlds best sword fighter to the worlds most skilled marksmen its retarded. Of course Octagon fighters are better than boxers in the Octagon. Now in a Boxing Match everyone of those UFC fighters don't make it past 4 rounds.

I think its so stupid when people ask these questions its like who would when in a Basketball Game of 1 on 1 Kobe Bryant or Derek Jeter.

All MMA fighter would win cause its by their rules... now.. make all those MMA fighters get in a boxing ring and they'll get beat into a coma... the reason for this is cause boxers arent used to grappling and takedowns so its stupid to all of a sudden put them in a cage to fight.. and an MMA fighter, put em in a ring and make them obey boxing rules.. they'll get MURDERED because all MMA fighters suck @$$ in the fundamentals of boxing they always throw punches slow and wide and dnt put their body properly into those punches... a boxer has a better chance in an octagon cause they could try and make it into a toe to toe fight.. but MMA fighter CAN NOT take some1 down in a boxing ring, therefore they are F*%#!

in the end.... Boxing is a superior sport PERIOD!!!!!!

If they fought under boxing rules the boxer would win. If they fought under UFC rules the MMA fighter would win. The boxer is greatly skilled in hand to hand combat but if it went to the ground the UFC fighter would have a great advantage as the boxer can not fight off his feet.

Ok, it highly DEPENDS on the type of match they're fighting in.

Top UFC fighters vs Top boxers in a boxing match and rules, UFC fighters = dead.

Top boxers vs Top UFC fighters in an MMA match and rules, Top boxers = dead

All i can say about MMA fighters is, they mostly don't only depend on their punches or boxing skills to win. They highly depend on the submission skills BJJ etc.

Also, when they fight, they don't only punch, but they throw kicks and elbows as well.

So hence, they don't spend enough time, perfecting their boxing skills unlike Boxers. Who is supposed to ONLY use punches in Boxing.

dude i have to say, ive seen this kind of showdown first hand, and they have videos like this on youtube...

the boxer looses every time

against kickboxers and against mixed martial artist

i saw one guy, he wasnt a big deal in boxing, he was on the olympic team and he fought a kick boxer...they had to carry him out of the ring because his legs were so injured, bloody and beaten....

and i know thats wierd, and im not even talking about them fighting the submission guyes, im mean the boxers are great and hand striking, better than the mixed martial artist hands down...but if they fought in the octagon, it would get nasty for the boxers...NASTY i would be concerned for there health

so all of the mma guyes you listed would have my bet, no doubt about that, the boxers do have a snow balls chance in hell, but im sorry man mma takes this one hands down

oh yea and too you boxing fans that say a mixed martial artist couldnt hold up in the ring...you are probably rite but the question was what would happen in the octagon...the boxer has little or no chance at all, even in stand up or the clinch, and lets no even consider the ground, that would just be a bad thing

to that rag guy, you are 100 precent rite a boxer xould definitly do mma with a year or two of training, but saying that guyes from the WWE could come to the ufc and do good is soo worng, the only reason why lesnar can is because he was a NCAA wrestling champ back in college, and he has a great reach, and outstanding athletic ability....but most of those guyes just look like that because of steriods and wouldnt have a chance in the octagon against an even decent mixed martial artist, like if the guyes from the WWE even tried boxing wouldnt have a chance because boxers train there entire live to fight in one element of fighting in the stand up area (without the use of there legs in striking like a mixed martail artist), and against that big sterioded beach muscle the boxer would tear them up like the mixed martial artist would, but in mma who knows how they would loose because its not a one deminsional sport, brock lesnar is just gifted, not just anyone from the WWE, boxing or the street could just jump into the cage after some training and dominate like lesnar has

and to that brooklyn dude, saying that a mixed martial artist doesnt counter in striking just shows you have no idea what the hell you are taliking about, and your ignorance to the future of fighting sports...maywether, de la hoya these are names any fighter knows because they are the last ligit forces in boxing, and the bad news for you is that your dying sport wont have any new names, because the ametures are learning greco roman wrestlign, muai thai, abd bjj to get into the mma world( go ahead ask around, ask the younger guyes)... boxing is just an element of mma, like ju jitsu or wrestling...if a mixed martial artsit wrestled a NCAA curent college champion, he would probably loose, but in the cage the wrestler in most cases doesnt have a chance. and thats why you wont find a boxer boxing a mixed martial artist too often, the boxer would win, there is no question, unless the mixed martial artist got his start in boxing, then it mite be a better fight.

its like you are trying to ignore his question, he said in the cage, the boxer has no chance...no chance, if he cant use his legs, how is he going to counter a few leg kicks,(trust me its a painful thing if you havent trained with it for a few years) and then keep his hands up enough not to give an opening somwhere else? eccspecially when he has to battle with a guy that knows how to use his shins, knees, elbows better than him, notice how i didnt say fist, but a good mixed martail artist can still find a way...plus when he finds an opening, and look there where i said when he finds an opening, how is he going to stop all of that pluss a guy who can wrestle and use standing, clinch, and ground submissions, IN THE CAGE (or the street) THE BOXER HAS LITTLE OR NO CHANCE...

and just dont try to make it sound like your sport is so much more advanced, its not, mma evolves every day, everytime the pace changes everytime a style is manipulated for the better of the sport, every time something is shown more effective the entire sport eveolves, so yea if you are like 50+ years old stick to your boxing, the youth will bring in the new era of fighting and combat sports

lol this is funny a boxer all the way.ufc fighters r boring and wene they get taged they take it 2 the ground 4 about 2 minutes to shake it off.in boxing if u get hurt bad u better keep swinging and fighting cause there s no take downs for 3 minutes.only a clinch and in 3 seconds its broke.boxers have to go 12 brutal rounds and none stop punching is more entertainment then on the mat getting cuddly with ur opponent.remember holyfield bowe 1 the 10nth rnd???holy is almost ko d and incredibly almost ko s bowe the 2nd half of the rnd lol its not even close.lol i love these mma fighters with records of 2 wins 1 loss and get shots at titles lol pleazzzz some fighters waite yrs fighting other skillfull fighters befor they ever get a shot at a title

no offense but these type of questions are stupid, ofcourse mma fighters would beat boxers in the octagon, boxers would be out of their element, the boxers would get seriously hurt. now put boxing gloves on those mma guys and throw them in a boxing ring against those boxers and some of them might not make it out of the ring.

remember that mma fighters have to be skilled in boxing, kickboxing, juijitsu, grappling, wrestling etc, meanwhile boxers only concentrate on one thing BOXING. mma fighter versus a boxer in boxing is suicide.
