Boxers and fighters make a living in making money in the sport of boxing. But how do you make money if you only fight 2 times a year? They're 12 months in a year and only two fights per year.A boxer is not gonna make much money like that.Top boxers and all champions in the sport of boxing should fight about 3 or 4 fights a year.

The amount of money these elite level fighters make, and the extent of the promotion are part of what dictates such a sparse schedule. However, the bigger reason they don't fight more than twice a year is because it would put them in a much higher tax bracket.

.

The problem here is that most promoters are either too greedy or too inexperienced in tax laws. They either cannot or will not protect their fighters from tax laws, which could cripple a fighter, or any athlete financially.

.

I'll never understand how a lawyer, like Bob Arum, could ever allow Pacquiao to ever have tax problems when he "takes" much more than Pacquiao will ever make, yet never has tax problems himself. It has nothing to do with the fact that Pacquiao feeds and supports an army.

.

Senators and Corporate heads are able to avoid such tax pit-falls. But athletes are prime targets and are unable to avoid the same.

.

In plain English, If Pacquiao or Mayweather fight more than twice per year, the third fight might as well be for free.

The simple answer is that the elite Boxers make enough money from one fight to last them a year or two. When you're making millions from PPV, purse, attendance revenue, and sponsors from a financial perspective they don't have to keep fighting.

Another reason is the fact that fights between elite boxers take more time to make now when you take into consideration TV dates, promotion, training camps, negotiations, and all those small arbitrary things that eventually burn up time.

Wear and tear also has to be taken into consideration when consider fighters who are competing at an elite level. When you face 5 journeymen in a year thats doesn't require as much training or wear on your body as facing 5 top ranked contenders in a year.

A lot of fighters from the older days took that approach. FIghting 6 and 7 times per year and as a result it really burned those guys out because there bodies couldn't handle the strenuous activity.

For Mayweather and Pacquiao it's understandable. They make a lot of money for each fight and don't have to fight as much. Now for other fighters i just don't understand. It seems anyone who even makes a little bit of a name for themselves goes to a two fight a year schedule. It's the latest in a long line of problems for the sport.I think fighters are being way too protected these days, and many don't want to take any risks unless absolutely necessary. Many fighters are undeserving of the superstar treatment they are getting. Some guys may fight 3 times a year but that's becoming increasingly rare.Promoters are building up fighters to be superstars without them putting in the hard work necessary to achieve that status. It's why guys who have put in real work like Floyd and Pac,usually dominate their cometition, even into their mid 30's.

In reality, Mayweather and Pacquiao are the guys who only fight two times a year, Wlad Klitschko as well.

That's b/c they make so much money it's not necessary for them to fight more than twice a year. Also, since the fights are so big the promotion's usually take a long time.

Other high level fighters will fight probably three times a year, unless they suffer some sort of injury or have promotional issues.

If you make enough money you don't need to fight so often.

Jack Dempsey sometimes fought 1s every 3 years.

Sugar Ray Leonard was less active than Floyd Mayweather.

etc.

Still; this does not mean you're elite, it just means you make enough money.

Watch Floyd Mayweather in superfeatherweight [when he fought several times a year] and there is no way he is better now that he barely fights

Has nothing to do with they've made enough money in 2 fights to need anymore, it's about the amount of additional taxes they'd have to pay for the extra earnings.

age has a lot to do with it once you get to say your early mid 30s your body takes longer to heal after a fight plus mentally the top guys like time to get focused . also if floyd fought every 3 months his fights wouldn't be such a big deal and the PPV numbers would drop.

PPV and high profile fighters make millions and don't need to keep fighting when they get plenty of money.
