After meeting with Bloomberg today, Oscar said, ""Golden Boy Promotions is bringing boxing to corporate America, which has never been done before. We believe in building relationships and are a young company. We have a plan to bring boxing back to being THE sport again. We have talent across the world and the only missing piece to the puzzle is bringing boxing back to free network TV."
What do you think?

Oscar is right. Boxing was at it's best when it was on free network TV. It gives everyone a chance to watch the sport, and will enable more people access to it, which means more people will become fans if they never watched it before. It annoys me that MMA gets a primetime spot on CBS a few times a year, and Boxing has to be on cable TV or PPV. I wouldn't even want Showtime if it werent' for the Boxing they put on. Hopefully Golden Boy will go through with this and get Boxing back to where it was, because the more homes you have Boxing in, the closer the sport will get to becoming mainstream again.

Oscar is very popular and Im sure he can pull off something like that. it will be nice if Golden Boy was the only governmental body of boxing, that way the sport will be very competitive and it will be hard to duck someone. It will be nice if Boxing gets advertised as a sport kind of like UFC. I mean If they have MMA on TV, Why not boxing? They are both Bloody combat sports anyways so it will be only fair for boxing to be on free network tv. Better yet it will be awesome of there was a boxing channel. Maybe we can see the European fighters in that network so that guys Like the klitschkos can gain American Mainstream popularity

Oscar is an opportunist. He might have wanted to save boxing, at one time. He's like a politician who goes into the cesspool with good intentions. Once he's in, he realizes he's in a bed full of sharks. He either takes them on or becomes one of them.

I have very little faith in ANYTHING that has the title "Corporate America" in it. They are the entity that controls this country, that which the government doesn't have a strangle hold on.

With the direction boxing has gone in, I used to think a government take over might actually be a good idea. However, I have no faith in ANY of the powers that be. Oscar might be the lesser of many evils. It all depends on his level of intoxication with money and power.

I don't see anyone rescuing boxing and I don't see fighters being treated any better than the "hookeresque" treatment they already suffer through, with the exception of a select few. I just have not had any reason to have any faith or trust in any of the powers that be.

Time will tell.

Not absolutely. But kudos to him to have that idea. I agree to anyone that the system in boxing should need refurbishments and innovation. I am sticking to my idea to regulate boxing to the point there is only one unifying belt so that alphabet soups will be no longer needed, promotion can also be no longer needed because of mandatory rankings (unified) so contenders will have a fair chance to fight the champion.

Boxing in free TV might not be a good idea to businessmen but as I may share, here in our country where boxing is televised on free TV it has long begun captured many fans and IMO is really a bold move to make.

On paper, it quite is quite fairly thrilling. however the fact is Oscar does not have it anymore as a fighter. on the different hand, Hatton, however coming off a devastating KO loss, continues to be at his top. as quickly as he recovers from that loss and regain his self assurance, he will beat De l. a. Hoya every time of the day so i think of this ain't a sturdy journey-up.

i dont know if it does hit the free tv network, it will have to be something that people look forward to on the weekend. i mean people would rather watch mma because its new. oscar would have to present boxing in a way that it has never been presented before. it would be something like getting manny and floyd to fight every week like boxers fought back in the 30's, 40's early 50's. heavyweights would rather play football, fast pucnhers want to play soccer, and your average puncher might have ended up in mma. but who knows.

Where did you get this?

HBO Sports is the foundation on which Oscar built Golden Boy Promotions. GBP iirc, is still under contract to provide fights for that cable company up to at least 2012. Going free network TV would seriously jeopardize that relationship.

Just what the hell is Dela Hoya trying to pull here.

EDIT:

Sure, GBP's Boxeo and Fight Night Club gets all the cr@ppy fights. Mismatches, fights between two guys with losing streaks - you name it. They are doing a great disservice to boxing if this is the kind of card they show for free. How come HBO Boxing After Dark gets the title fights and the fights from popular fighters. The thing is HBO (or any other cable company) corners all the important GBP fights because Dela Hoya and co. earns more from them.

If i see a PPV fight like say, Maidana vs Khan on, or at least a Boxing After Dark QUALITY weekly boxing show on one of the big networks then i would certainly believe that GBP is putting profits in a backseat and is indeed out to rescue boxing. Otherwise, Oscar is just fu¢king with us.

Don King is fading fast and Arum is next to go. Oscar and GoldenBoy are the future of boxing and if they can bring boxing back to free TV it really won't matter because there is so little free TV left, cable pretty much made it obsolete.

The talent is just not there anymore especially in the heavyweight divisions and it's not ever going to be there again as long as the best athletes can play other sports and make more money. Things always change with time, one day soccer could be the sport everyone wants to get into in the States, how disgusting would that be?

i agree, cuz free tv can reach every person around the world who all owns cheap tv at home...

No, all the opposite.

He will destroy boxing with his mind.

He was a good boxer but a very bad promoter.
