ortiz was simply doubted in every fight after maidana, and also doubted in every moment leading up to andre berto. (respect to berto and maidana)

this kid ( kid in the boxing world) proved himself like no other fighter by taking on berto, berto seemed to be the more:
explosive
stronger
faster
and better boxer all round.

then ortiz simply won ( shocked me )

for me personally this win alone, makes ortiz the fighter of the year.
brother naz says ortiz already won (taking the fight against mayweather), and i agree with him 100 % ortiz wins( in other aspects) even if he loses to mayweather)
here are his reasons why:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=av_A2Ap1YQg

the vid is a short 2 minute video.
also:
He must be foremost in his contribution to the skill and the science of boxing and he need not be a champion.
The recipient must combine with his high place in the ranking of fighters a similar position as a sportsman.
He must associate with the abilities as a fighter good public relations and a reputation for clean and moral living.
The boxer receiving the award must be recognized as an example to the growing youth.
(RING MAGAZINE)

respect to mayweather and ortiz, can't wait for the fight...

so does ortiz deserve the fighter of the year award or not???? regardless win or lose.. in your opinion, i say yes he does.

Sir, Victor Ortiz did have a great win over Andre Berto. And if he beats Floyd Mayweather, no doubt he is Fighter of the Year for 2011. But, if he loses, I wouldn't call him FOTY. It isn't normal for Fighter of the Years to lose a big fight, they become Fighter of the Year for winning a big fight(s). 2007 Floyd Mayweather beat Oscar De La Hoya and Ricky Hatton. 2008 Manny Pacquiao beat Juan Manuel Marquez, David Diaz, and Oscar De La Hoya. 2009 Manny Pacquiao beat Ricky Hatton and Miguel Cotto. 2010 Sergio Martinez beat Kelly Pavlik and Paul Williams. Like I said before, Ortiz should no doubt if he wins against Mayweather, but if he loses, then no. No offense to Ortiz, but any fighter who loses a big fight that year shouldn't be the FOTY in my opinion. This year, if Bernard Hopkins beats Chad Dawson, he deserves it, in my opinion.

Thanks for the question!

Well I think that his fight with Andre Berto is a top candidate for fight of the year

however, if he loses to Floyd Mayweather Jr. he won't be chosen to be fighter of

the year. Keep in mind there are other boxers who did accomplished really good

things this year, Bernard Hopkins at 46 years of age set a new record and B-Hop

is now the oldest active boxer to win a World Championship. I'm sure if he beats

"Bad" Chad Dawson next month in October, B-Hop would be a top candidate for

fighter of the year honors and deserves that recognition for his accomplishments.

If he wins, I have no doubt he will be named fighter of the year over Bernard Hopkins. Amir Khan and Nonito Donaire.
