Mayweather vs. Ortiz...Cheap Shot or Not? (Actually the question, mayweather fanboys)?

Yes Ortiz did headbutt Mayweather but Ortiz didn't win with the headbutt he got a penalty.
Mayweather won with a cheap shot so there's a huge difference to start off.
Yes, Ortiz should not have been so apologetic and kept his guard up.

Secondly how could anyone feel proud of that win? It was such a clear cheap shot. The referee is an idiot, as well, he didn't even see the first punch, for all he knows the first punch could've been a low blow.

And third and most importantly
Do you as a fan, who payed $60 to see this fight, feel cheated out of a great fight?

I feel cheated since I paid $70 to see the fight. I won't be paying to see Mayweather fight again unless it's against Manny Pacquiao. I was also shocked to see that they are still selling a second Pay Per View rerun of the fight tonight (the next day after it was fought) for $55!



I used to be a huge Mayweather fan. But, he has completely ruined his legacy in the minds of any true boxing fans. How can Mayweather continue to brag about his undefeated record and his "legacy" when he has ducked Manny Pacquiao for several years? You can't say that you are the best and undefeated when you refuse to fight the most qualified/top challenger. And, to top it off last night by popping a less experienced guy when he's trying to apologize by offering a hug after having a point taken away for his foul and then cheap shotting him again when he's looking away to the referee for direction ... hugging by putting your gloves around a fighter is not touching gloves to signal "we're on". If he was not scared, he would have taken the point advantage and fought on like a man. Obviuosly, the win and the money are all he cares about and not his legacy,the sport itself, or the fans that paid to see fight that was stopped because of his unsportsmanlike conduct.



What's next, is Mayweather going to start biting his opponents when he's frustrated?



This is a sport that's supposed to be about the competition, Floyd. It's not just about the money to us fans who are paying for your rediculous lifestyle. If you expect to gain any respect from the fans, yout next fight should be with Manny. Either put up or shut up.

I personally think Mayweather (not cheated) but played dirty. When I mean dirty, I mean he has no manners. Rules are the rules but he has no respect for the game. All he cares is winning. If Mayweather were to knock out Ortiz and accidently killed him, he wouldn't care. There is no pride in Mayweather for the sport. Fair play is one of the first fundamental rules in all of sport. Ortiz didn't play fair but he did apologize. He knew what he done wrong and admits it. Mayweather on the other hand just hits him. Denies the apology. He also denies that he did something wrong. Its not who played dirty first, its who finishes dirty. Mayweather finished with a cheap shot win. He didn't get penalized, he did'nt acknoledge the referee when they can start. Ortiz got penalized and apologized. I think that's pretty fair.



All in all, the main reason why this fight was so controversial was because mayweather won. If Ortiz got back up after the two blows, then it woudnt have been such a major issue. Both players hit dirty and now there even. However, Mayweather won with that shot. It would be the same if Ortiz won with a strong shot after the headbutt. But he didnt and got penalized. Some people say Ortiz shouldn't have left his guard down and it was he fault he hugged and apologized. That makes Mayweather more savage. Its like constantly beating and kicking someone when their down. No diginity or respect.



I think mayweather got a cheap shot BECAUSE he hit Ortiz when he left his guard down when he apologized, especially since he won with that shot.

What you guys seem to forget is a cheap shot is a cheap shot. he didnt win from the headbut but he could have. This is business. it aint a game. The door was opened by ortiz. the headbut he threw was ridiculous and shameful. There are fighters who never recovered after a headbut and went on to lose the fight. Secondly, the ref gave the "fight" command. look at the replay. And for those floyd haters who say he needed it to win, what fight were u watching? the one i saw ortiz was getting owned. he didnt even look like he should be in the ring with floyd.

Lastly, i dont feel cheated. EVERYONE knows a fight can go one round or all twelve. its the chance you take. Its rounds not quarters.

After the deduction, the ref told Ortiz "don't be doing that", then he brought his hands together and said "let's go". Fighters came to center and touched gloves, the ref looked at the time table and said "time in", 1 second later Floyd hit him like he should have. If you say Floyd only cares about winning and see that as being wrong, then those people have obviously never been athletes. Last time I checked playing sports is about winning, not hugging and kissing. Go back and look, the ref had told Ortiz several time in the fourth to watch his head, victor had been trying to butt Floyd. Anybody who knows anything about boxing knows that a good butt can cut you, which can effect you in subsequent fights. They do stop fights due to bleeding cuts you know. Ortiz was playing with Floods livelihood, he deserved to lose the way he did.

Am I the only person that noticed there was 8 seconds left in the round before the ref paused the fight to deduct a point? If the match did start up again when Ortiz was hugging it out then the final 8 seconds would have passed before Floyd knocked Ortiz out.

Ortiz already paid for his offense when the referee took a point away from him. That's the boxing world's justice, not your opponent taking a cheap shot back at you (despite it being legal). gayweather was doing so well too and could've won with respect, but instead, he took advantage of the moment.
