Question:
What do you think will be the biggest factors for Pacquiao to win the "Dream Match" against dela Hoya? Why?

We are just a few days away from the "Dream Match" between Filipino boxing icon Manny "the Pac-Man" Pacquiao and boxing's "Golden Boy" Oscar dela Hoya and predictions are mixed on who will emerge victorious in the December 6, 2008 boxing match at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas Nevada. Although some predict that the bigger dela Hoya has the advantage in his height, weight and reach, many Pinoys believe Pacquiao has what it takes to win this match-up.

Speed, power and heart to fight. Many people look at Oscar's height, weight and power as his greatest advantage over Manny. Many so called boxing experts didn't notice how Manny grows into his natural weight. Manny is still growing and the most visible evidence is his ability to carry his speed and power whenever he step in to higher division. In fact it might be this weight (147) that Manny can fight best because he doesn't have to reduce weight and could eat nutrients that could preserve his strength. Look at his fight with Diaz. Pacquiao was even reported to have struggled to get at 135. But during fight night his speed and power was more evident than all his previous fight. His fight with Marquez was hardly won because of his struggle to meet the 130 lbs limit. Many boxers who jump up to higher division suffered losses because they are no longer growing and adding weight to their already matured weight will create big problem. Marquez though manage to knockout Casamayor is much much slower than when he fights at 130. Hes lucky to beat Casamayor because Casa is much much super slow. Againts Pacquiao at 135 Marquez will not go the distance and will be KO in 5 rounds.

At 147 and probably 152-155 at fight night his power and speed will surprise Oscar. Ask an expert nutritionist, Manny is still growing. Look at his body, its awesome, full of muscles. With Oscar scaling down his weight to the extent of sacrificing his health, Oscar will meet his Waterloo in the hands of the Pacman... Im a fan of both boxers, but sometimes in their career as boxers , someone should pass the torch and this time it will be Oscar passing the torch to pacman. Meantime Pacman will reign until his Waterloo would come. Big fan of Oscar should accept the fact that hes no longer as what he is during his prime . Fighting Pac is a gamble, it would be more easy for him to fight Margarito than Pacman..So the biggest factor for Pacman to win this fight is his speed and his real power at 147, his almost natural weight.

As we all know anything can happen in game of boxing in one good shot can make the difference, like for some instances for Manny Pacquiao, the biggest factor for Pacquaio to win the "Dream Match" will be speed and agility and the power punch that coach Freddie and Paquiao had improve from their long hard training, despite most of the advantage is with Dela Hoya but with the great power and speed can change the game and Pacquiao can win the Dream Match.

Speed, power and being young are the biggest factors Pacquiao has in winning the dream match against dela Hoya. He has to go inside and concentrate on the body, but must be very careful in attacking his opponent.

On the most awaited fight "The Dream Match," The Pack Man will emerged victorious. You know why? Here's the selling point:

* The fighting stance of Hoya is practically the same that of the other Mexican Great Legends.

* The waving, foot works and the ability of the Pack Man to angle himself both on defense and offense at any moment, creates a perfect source of frustrations on most of his first time encounters with these legends.

* The unpredictability and timing of Pacquiao to launch an attack from a back-stance in a single moment (take the first encounter of Pacquiao vs Marquez 1st round). Pacquiao will not give a chance for his opponents take a rest, not until when his down on the floor.

* Pacquiao will frustrate the Golden Boy with cuts all over, and turns his head and said 'Oh! my god, what I have got-in to'...Same thing the Pack Man did to Diaz who is known to be dangerous with a solid chin.

The biggest factors for Pacquiao to win, first he has the speed to throw lots of punches to dela Hoya. And it's up to dela Hoya to do the defense or the offense to fight back his young opponent. In Sports like this, speed is very important since it gives the advantage against the opponent when you exert both the offense and the defense. Second, A coach has an important role to play to any player in sports like boxing, and Roach had served dela Hoya when he knew dela Hoya's strenghts and weaknesses for Manny's advantage aside from those strategic skills and moves he shared and developed to my 'Kababayan in Gensan". Lastly, I strongly believe that in Sports age matters as your mental and physical abilities and capabilities have important roles to perform excellently. For Manny, you are destined to be on the top and taking the role of the Champ. Mabuhay ang Pinoy!

Manny will win via knockout on the eight or ninth round, his speed will definitely be the big difference in this fight not to mention his ability to absorb punches. Oscar will tire out on the latter part of the fight he will not endure 12 gruelling round in front of a Manny Pacquiao. Manny is in best shape of his career, stronger, tougher, wiser and with Freddie on his corner no way an aging Oscar Dela Hoya can win.

The biggest factor that will help Manny Pacquiao to win the "Dream Match" against Dela Hoya is his "heart". He fights not only with his skill but with his "heart" which is not present in Dela Hoya or in any of the boxers that he has fought.

i think the factor here would be the durability of each boxer as the fight goes on. if manny can endure and evade dela hoya's power punching, and survive the later rounds he may win it by a late round KO or a decision because of his speed and power. So far, pacquiao's toughest opponent was marquez and i think a 3rd showdown with marquez should happen at 135. his defense is ok, but not as good as mayweather's. For pacquiao to win, he has to put up really fast power punch combos and tighten up his defense. Pacquiao has to last the 12 rounds.

With oscar towards the end of his career, at 35, he has shown in his previous fight that he does not have that enough stamina to keep up to the later rounds of the fight. In his last 2 fights (mayweather, forbes) he always starts up strong working on the jab and power punch combos. but as the fight progresses, his body becomes weaker, his loses his defense (mayweather found lots of openings which led him to win the fight), and his power weakens ( forbes was never knocked down during the fight). also, in an interview, oscar said that he is taking this fight seriously because of freddie roach dissing him, and pacman dissing him too like a couple of years back where pacman signed a contract with GBP but ended up with top rank.

Pacquiao may be the underdog because of size, power, reach advantage. I really can't tell if it will matter because marquez was able to knockout the bigger casamayor, while bernard hopkins completely dominated pavlik, and the same guy (bhopkins) KOd de la hoya with body shots.

In boxing speed and power are more advantage than height and reach. Everybody knows Dela Hoya ability on the ring but time change. He is older now while PACMAN is on the height of his superior & physical strength. I'm sure dela hoya can't TKO PACMAN. If one left hook of PACMAN hit the face of Dela HOYA we will see if still he has the strength to survive. Height is not a big factor Ali is only 6'1" while Foreman is 6'5" tall and heavier but he was TKOd by speedier ali.

The biggest factors for pacquiao to win are...

1. Dela Joya wouldn't last the bodyshots of Pacquiao. The "Achiles heel" of Oscar. Losing weight also thin his protection muscles.

2.Since Pacquiao size and weight go up, his punches will be more stronger and heavier. This shows in his last fight with Diaz.

3.Age does matter. The wear and tear of Dela Joya will show in the later rounds.

First is destiny. Manny Pacquiao is destined to be one of the greatest fighter of all time if not the most bankable. Pacquiao can take the punches as you can see in all his bouts and age also is not on the side of D eLa Hoya. They are only fighting for the money. Oscar will get more win or loss, coz he has the golden boy promotions.

Manny Pacquiao's speed and strong punches. But before he goes

full blast he should get acquianted first with de la Hoya's tactics

in the first round.

The good thing about Manny is his strategy. He studies the moves

of the opponent first, before fires his salvo. Whether or not de la Hoya

can use his reach and weight to his advantage is still to be doubted

much because Pacquiao is quick on his feet and hands. I still don't

know who between the two is a stronger puncher. But one thing is

sure, Manny is a quicker puncher and he can hurt his opponent terribly

bad.

All the way with the Pacman. He has what it takes to take down De La Hoya. The raw power. The only problem is that, I just really hope he fights it out, win or lose because with De La Hoya having big bucks and a reputation to secure, hopefully Pacman doesn't get blinded by offers of big money to lie down on the canvass.

The biggest factor would be an attitude of expecting the unexpected. After reading all the previous posts, realizing that the pros and cons have words to say for their side, I still believe that we cannot know what will happen on that day. No one. Could you predict? No. But I believe that Manny CAN win. "Can" is different from "Will". Manny CAN win because I see that he fights expecting the unexpected. Manny is never complacent. So, whoever wins, good luck.

dela Hoya will be running around and will try to finish the game standing-up and save his pretty face but he got no chance of beating Pacquiao in any fight at any time. He just want a big paycheck just before he retires and he'll get it. All Manny has to do is go after him and destroy him! Go Manny go!!!

I think Manny will win.

1. Manny will probably slip Oscar's jabs, and work on the body. He has a stronger right hand now too. If you look at the boxers and their stance, you will notice that Manny's right hand will be where Oscar's left hand is, and he will be able to block Oscar's punches (left hook) with it, making Oscar have a hard time hitting Manny with his well known left hook.

2. Manny will dance around Oscar, making him tired for the latter rounds.

3. Manny is smaller, but that can work to his advantage too, if he is able to fight up close. Also, Oscar will have to bend lower to be able to punch Manny in the right place to knock him out and Manny knows how to move around and bend.

4. Oscar is a boxing promoter. Business wise, it would be wise for him to lose. He will make more money out of Manny's fights, if he gets to promote them. (if this is all about money...)

5. Manny is younger. He is the no. 1 pound for pound fighter. He is quicker too.

6. Manny has heart. He wants to win for the country. That is his motivation. He will not let his country men down!

These are my thoughts.

The biggest factor for Pacquiao to win is really his timing, his timing of punches, knowing when to be aggressive and backing-up smartly. Its really a combination of both. Mixing up being aggressive when the momentum is on manny's and spacing a bit and not being too aggressive just to make sure the momentum is on your side as well as your composure because an over aggressive and careless move can spell out the difference. Go Manny!

Pacquiao has the heart but De La Hoya has the big three, height, weight and reach. These three advantages will take their toll on Pac-Man over the full range of the bout. I want to see Pac-Man win this one for the people of the Philippines and himself, but logic tells me this will be a fast fight. De La Hoya will take this one.

Manny needs to beat Oscar to the punch and at the same time weave out of trouble. if he manages to do this the whole fight and kept the killer instinct that has characterized his past fights, I beleive he will KO the faded Golden Boy in eight rounds. The weight and height advantage that Dela Hoya has on paper does not mean a thing if you cannot use it. BAsed on history, great fighters who slide to lower division during their late years often lose. This was the case with Sugar Ray Leonard when he fought Terrible Terry Norris after going up to light heavy weight to beat Donnie Lalonde and Roy Jones who went back to light heavyweight to fight the then lightly regarded Antonio Tarver after beating Johnny Ruiz for the heavyweight belt. Both fighters lost the sting in their punches and it showed during the fight. Leonard went into retirement to prevent further slide though he showed up to fight Hector MAcho Camacho losing by KO. While Roy Jones sufferred twin KO loses to tarver and Glencoffee Johnson.

Though he won over a washed out Tito Trinidad in a light heavyweight fight, he has lost a total of four of his I think last five fights with the last a lopsided loss to Joe Calzaghe. I think the same will happen to dale hoya.

Dela Hoya will win the fight if he cornered Pacman but pacman however is also thinkable that way and will be able to evade to any tactical moves spread from the four corners. In other words the mexican heroe is not born yet and PACMAN supremacy will stand.

Dela hoya must think twice to catch the evasive pacman or else...? Sorrrrry!!!

As an avid fan of Manny who even has his signed autograph when I caught him dining in one of our plushest hotels here in manila, I will naturally be rooting for him. If Manny wins, it will be because of 3 main reasons: (1) his lightning speed as the younger fighter, (2) his almost unbelievable, dependable, God-given horse kick power in his left punch, and (3) as important as anyone would care to admit, his ring intelligence. These qualities, I believe, will make this dream match really a boxing fan's dream match with Manny waking up the day after being praised with the sun, moon and stars by the boxing world with a spectacular win the night before. And if I may add a fourth reason why Manny will win is the powerful, ever-answered novena prayer on fight night by mommy Dionisia who will be watching from their province in General Santos City, Mindanao.

Pacquiao has the heart of a champion. I believed that size is not that important, it all depends on the performance. He did it with Diaz, he can do it again with old man dela Hoya.

Three things i would like to emphasize, 1st, that Manny is an experienced fighter-that means that he is both physically and mentally prepared. Secondly, though Manny is smaller than Oscar, his speed and ability to fight would be an advantage (obviously), thirdly, it is important also to consider the audience, they are the one to give an impact during the fight and i believed this could be a source of Manny's strenght to win the match for people manny would favor Manny not because he is famous but because of his simplicity and courage inside the ring.

Sugar Ray Leonard and Thomas Hearns? Thomas "Hitman" Hearns has the height and reach advantage. Who won the fight? Of course, Sugar Ray Leonard by TKO if I'm correct with my memory. Back to your question, the biggest factor(s) will be increasing your weight is increasing the power of your hardest punch (Remembering what I had learned from my PHYSICS subject) and the power of love because Pacman loves the sport so much and the love in his heart will show the desire to WIN not only for the Filipinos but to the world and be written in the history of boxing GREATS.

I think one of the biggest factors for Pacman to win is the "stamina" because he can last 15 rounds with ease while D. L. Hoya won't. Secondly, the "speed combinations" to the body to wear him down as proven from the previous fights against Trinidad and Hopkins.Thirdly, his fully developed "right hand" as another lethal weapon to confuse him. And last but not the least, his 'will to win" because Pacman is hungrier and more focused because as no. 1 pound for pound in the world he definitely won't allow to slip it overnight due to his future fights with Hatton and possibly with Mayweather.

I guess, on my own point of view, i will look at it like the fight of "David and Goliath". Given the fact that Manny is smaller in terms of height and weight against Oscar but in terms of "Heart to Play" I guess Manny still has the advantage. He just need to remained "focus" all throughout the rounds. One way to defeat enemy is really to find his weakness, once Manny manage to see Oscar's weakness, problem solved. I believe on Manny, not because I am also a Filipino, but the kind of Heart he has for the sake of all Filipinos throughout the world, is simply remarkable. Just like David did to Goliath how he defeat him: (1) Distance (2) Strategy (3) and more especially Faith in God.... Just do your Best Manny... May God bless you and Goodluck!

I think fighting style will be the biggest factor. Manny has had trouble fighting technical fighters, see Juan Manuel Marquez first and second fight. Oscar has is a technical fighter, has good defense, good counter punching, this type of fighter usually gives problems to offensive juggernauts like Manny.

On the other hand, Manny has been showing improving technical skills from his latest fights. If he uses this with Oscar, he might pull this one off.

Because of the possible weight difference i believe Pacquiao needs to immediately work on the body of Osca. As the fight progresses this should have Osca looking for breathing space, however the body punches will weaken his punching power and allow Manny to close in for the knock out blow. If this is not done i believe Osca will win the fight.

The speed of PAC-MAN will be the biggest factor to win the DREAM MATCH against dela Hoya.As i remembered the fight of light heavyweight title bout SUGAR RAY LEONARD VS DONNY LALONDE..LALONDE has the advantage weight , height , & reach but SUGAR RAY won that fight by knouckout.Because of the speed , job combination & good fottwork. We all know that left hand of PAC-MAN is so strong. If OSCAR want to win the fight,He better watch out the speed, job combination, footwork & specially the left hand of PAC-MAN..

lucky punch or maybe no factor at all.. he cant beat the golden boy coz the golden boy is a warrior of QUALITY fighters compare to pacman who by the virtue of his promoter pick fights wherein they will earn more money and a little risk of defeat.. pacman camp should have pick juan diaz rather than david diaz coz the promoter knows that juan diaz will send pacman kissing all tha 4 corners of the canvass, joan gozum, insane Valero and a 3rd fight with marquez should come first before fighting the golden boy..if he knocks all those quality boxers, Well, i belive that there will be a biggest factor for pacman to draw with the golden boy.. In the military the more experienced soldier will always be the winner when it comes to combat..

i don't see Pacquiao actually hurting De La Hoya because he's too small. he can however try to land a lot of punches and make the judges think he's dominating De La Hoya. so for Pacquiao to win, it's his speed in getting inside and if De La Hoya can take body punches.

I think for manny to win is their "Excellent Fight Plan and Determination". His speed not really matters here cuz as u can see the golden boy has also a speed puncher and also has a good counter punch.

Lets say:

Determination = 40%

Fight Plan = 35%

This is my opinion....

THE BEST FACTOR THAT WILL HELP MANNY WIN THE FIGHT IS HIS UNDEFINABLE SPEED AND HIS HOOKS! MOST OF ALL HIS FOOT WORKS..BECAUSE WAY BACK OF ALL HIS FIGHTS WITH THE MEXICAN BOXERS FREEDIE ROACH ALWAYS DEVELOPES MANNY`S STAMINA AND HOOKS.. I AM LOOKING FORWARD THAT PACMAN WILL BRING DOWN THE CAREER OF DELA HOYA AT 6-8 ROUND OF THE FIGHT..

IMO I believe Pac man is the faster fighter but that is his only advantage! Oscar has the size 5'10" to 5'6" and I believe oscar will walk into the ring about 153-155 lbs. Pac man will be around 145-147 night of fight. I think oscar will utilize his jab and keep manny at that distance until pac man rushes in and gets caught with a oscar left hook and its night night!!!!! Oscar will rush the top rope with money falling out of his shorts. 30 million to be precise.

The heart. Very few opt to challenge bigger fighters. Manny has an ill-mannered heart inside the ring, like a ragging bull.

This is a good question... what manny pacman needs to win this one is to team up with rolando navarette the crazy filipino boxing legend.

with these two boxer.....how can they lose? See the resemblance on both boxer "GOOD LOOKS". navarette will hold de la hoya's legs and manny will use his punching speed to knck him down. GO TYSON ...GO TYSON BITE THEIR EARS. "I WANNA BITE LIKE MIKE" hehehehe

you are slightly uninformed, most every one in my city 3rd biggest in the philippines would never put there money on pac-man, except the few with money to spare for the sole purpose of being viewed as patriotic. Really like to see your statistics.... back up your ridiculous claim, people here follow and know boxing...this is no dream match its a death match!

50/50 chance that it will be Oscar or Manny.

For Oscar he can win by TKO anytime with his left hook, and by decision with his jab.

For Manny, he can win TKO at later rounds with body punches, and by decision with plenty of punches.

Pacquiao is younger and faster although shorter... win or lose, he still takes home a lot of money

he must be always close to Golden Boy, he must not give that distance or else it is very hard for him to defeat Oscar, Pacman's short upper cut will the big factor to knock Oscar down to the floor,

the greatest factor is the speed and power whichh de la hoya don't have.one singlepunchh can end the fight.and paquiao has no fear.

It's the heart of Pac-Man. It's Pac-Man "Dream Match", he will do whatever it takes just to win this fight. Pac-Man prove himself, not just once but many times already. His heart is for Pinoys, he will never fail us.

I don't believe Pacquiao can win over Dela Joya.

2008-12-03 06:27:30 UTC
I can`t think of any factor that pacquiao will win or probably the factor is the word "lucky" if he do because de la joya`s height, weight and reach has something to do with the would be result and that is the pacman`s "ends".

they are both great, but this time , i'll vote for Manny, not only his speed, stamina but his BIG HEART, while Oscar becoming slower and older.

before my answer..some highlights first based on what I personally knew..PACMAN is great fighter..no doubt about it..he surprised every one when he first stepped on the big mans ring..knocking out every great mexican fighters will all knew..

how hard PACMAN punch is..well..just review all the begging Manny Pacquiao did to have a second round fight on Marquez and Barrera..both boxers ran away from him (because they felt every punch of Pacquiao) until both fighters became to old to fight him back..now look who's begging PACMAN for a fight..Marquez and Barrera..not for the pride or for their country..but for the purse..

the only Mexican fighter I watched with all his bravery facing PACMAN is no other than the great Mexican fighter named Eric Morales..who is now a friend to PACMAN..you can see it on Morales face, the agony he felt everytime PACMAN lands his left punch on his body or his face..

even the enormous David Diaz who needs another 12 rounds (but of course it won't happen) just to get PACMAN down..

now it is Oscar Dela Hoya's turn to get richer and richer..I mean to prove he is the best fighter than PACMAN..

hey Oscar..with your size..even if you win and made Manny Pacquiao suffer..you have proven nothing..becasue you have to win..otherwise..should you lost..and even if you keep on saying that you feel you are at your greatest shape ever and can win hundreds of fight..I think..you must continue to hang your gloves (and retire and do matching and promotion instead of fighting) and enjoy your two beautiful kids and loving wife and let PACMAN enjoy his prime..

the eagerness of Dela Hoya to win is only to get even with PACMAN for not joining his stable..you see boxing fans..even Dela Hoya believes in the super powerpunch of Pacquiao..why..he even asked him to join his team..since he sees fortune out of this kid..

the question should have been for Dela Hoya..and something goes like this.."why should Oscar Dela Hoya prepared so much for a small fighter and is a non-title bout?..the answer could be..MONEY..and not MANNY..

Dela Hoya could have been more of a great fighter if he wins the last two title bout against the boxers who is even on his size..think about it..

Now for my answer..the biggest factor will be Manny Pacquiao's desires to be on the history of international boxing..quoting him saying.."beating Oscar will put my (Pacquiao) name in history until after 50 years"..Manny may lose this fight but his heart will be the champion for every boxing fan..big or small..for every new boxers dreaming of being another Pacquiao..not just for money but for greatness..

Yes..Pacquiao seems to win lottery everytime he fights..but the destiny pays him and not him asking for the destiny..I'm a boxing fan and I see no knockouts by Pacquiao until the last bell rang..Dela Hoya is a boxer not easily to be knocked down..he is tougher and bigger than those who have been knocked out by Pacquiao..the biggest so far is David Diaz who went down, but not because of the too much power on Manny's punch but more on the carelessness of Diaz exposing himself for that big punch..if Dela Hoya will be careful..he will remain standing even after the 12 rounds..

I see at the end of this fight, Pacquiao on the top of the rope..raising his hands..not because of winning the match..but rather thankful for staying on his feet after the fight..and proudly saying.."I survived God..thanks"..

and on the other end of the rope..looking at Dela Hoya on his winning moment..saying.."HAHAHA..I beat the smaller guy".."you next..GERRY PENALOSA"..

well the big man in size, the speed and the power will have the advantage unless the whole thing is a big circus, a run for the big money.
