There aren't that many technical Boxers out there except for, Floyd, Marquez, Calderon, Dawson, ect..Many of these Boxers nowadays don't understand the true art of the sport. I love watching a slugfest, toe to toe battle, but i respect Boxers with great knowledge of the sport, and that are capable of representing the true art of the sport. All i hear is, "Technical Boxers are boring". If you're true fans of the sport, you should appreciate all styles of it. As i say, i love watching an all out slugfest with two guys beating the crap out of each other. But at the same time, i respect Boxers that are smart enough to make their opponents look like amateurs.

I agree, boxing is the art of hitting and not getting hit, so many fans nowadays do not know how to appreciate technical boxing matches, they can't appreciate a beautifully thrown counter punch, they only want to see toe-to-toe slug fests. For me, a boxing match can be boring, but if people know how hard it is not to get hit, they might understand.

Its not so much about the technique anymore as is it the money and the fans. Technical boxers just dont get as much of a following as those who throw haymakers every 2 seconds. The need for fans and money is also getting gradually more desperate as MMA, kickboxing and the UFC are taking the fighting market by storm and boxing itself is struggling as a sport.

Kind of echoing what kalambre said. You LOVE seeing a knockout, but RESPECT a technical fight.

In a similar vein, baseball fans LOVE to see a 10-8 game with plenty of home runs and hits, but RESPECT a 1-0 pitching duel. Ultimately, most fans are casual fans who don't often appreciate the finer and more nuanced aspects of a sport, but so what? They're paying money to watch, too, and they want to be entertained.

Who doesn't? I think Floyd has strength and speed. And he relied on it.

You love, you respect. The point is you love to see a slugfest, while you respect the technical aspect. Me, too. Sad to say the running, hugging and ducking ain't entertaining. You don't want to put up a show only to dissappoint the watching fans. You are getting their hard earned money. You have to give something to the fans in return. That's the reality of it.

I think you already have the answer. Just compare the words love and respect dawg. and you will see love is far greater than respect.

the problem is, you only have one technique or style in mind and that for you

is the ultimate knowledge about boxing, nothing great follows. such style was first perfected by muhammad ali that influenced many great boxers such as sugar ray leonard and many more...

there are lots of boxers out there who displays new moves inside the ring...

better be open to those new fresh moves never before seen.

and dont get too emotional when those moves dominates boxing nowadays...

only means your own brand of techniques cannot really handle evrything....

there's more to it than strenght and speed...

tyson vs. holmes is one to remember

You did just list a number of modern technical boxers. Haye has shown the abilities too. But then I take one look at a Froch fight and start agreeing with you.

I use my strength and speed, but to hit targets. Boxing to me is like chess, jabs are pawns all the way up to the queen which is the ko blow. I also have the four vital spots to aim for. Relying on speed and power can only get you so far, using your head can get you further.

You need both of those but I do wish that even the brawlers were more technically skilled. I think you can have a slug fest but still make it look like "art" rather than a sloppy exchange.

People dont respect the sport like they used too.

Everyone thinks its easy to dominate, thats why you get people on forums saying things like "How do i get harder in boxing" with terrible titles, and ever worse questions.

People are ignorant now, and need to be sat down and shown what true boxing is.

Ali V Cleveland Williams - :D watch it!

Infact, ali v anyone. :D

boxing can remain art if it is not involved with money. when the money and fame comes in this becomes business and the beauty of art that you have wished and loved eventually vanished. that is how strength and speed gets in and disappointing true art lover like you, me and many others.

Speed and power is vital. Power without speed is futile and speed without power is boring. It is the same as the SHOCK and AWE Crusade of US Pres. Bush against Iraqi Saddam. Element of surprise through SPEED and paralysis through POWER.
